Get an implant consultation
Dental implants are often the best option for replacing a missing tooth or teeth. They can be used to suppport indiviual teeeth or dentures.
Gaps may be a cosmetic concern.
Missing teeth may affect the way you speak and chew.
When a missing tooth is not replaced the teeth around it will move. This can create areas for plaque to accumulate, which can lead to tooth decay and periodontal (gum) disease.
Most importantly, when teeth are missing bone loss will occur.
An implant looks and functions like a natural tooth. It is secure when you speak and chew. A single tooth implant does not involve your other teeth.
Implants usually involve two or three steps:
First the dentist places the implant into the jaw. In some cases, the dentist can place a temporary crown at this time.
The implant attaches to the bone through a healing process which takes three to six months.
Next the dentist will attach an extension, called an abutment, to the implant. The implant and abutment will be the foundation for a crown.
Finally, the dentist makes a crown that will match your other teeth. Once the permanent crown is ready, it attaches to the implant and abutment.
